グテーレス国連事務総長による新年に向けてのメッセージ

Dear Friends,
2020 has been a year of trials, tragedies and tears.
COVID-19 upended our lives and plunged the world into suffering and grief.
So many loved ones have been lost – and the pandemic rages on, creating new waves of sickness and death.
Poverty, inequality and hunger are rising.
Jobs are disappearing and debts are mounting.
Children are struggling.
Violence in the home is increasing, and insecurity is everywhere.
But a New Year lies ahead.
And with it, we see rays of hope; People extending a helping hand to neighbors and strangers; Frontline workers giving their all; Scientists developing vaccines in record time; Countries making new commitments to prevent climate catastrophe.
If we work together in unity and solidarity, these rays of hope can reach around the world.
That’s the lesson of this most difficult year.
Both climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic are crises that can only be addressed by everyone together – as part of a transition to an inclusive and sustainable future.
The central ambition of the United Nations for 2021 is to build a global coalition for carbon neutrality – net zero emissions – by 2050.
Every government, city, business and individual can play a part in achieving the vision.
Together, let’s make peace among ourselves and with nature, tackle the climate crisis, stop the spread of COVID-19, and make 2021 a year of healing.
Healing from the impact of a deadly virus.
Healing broken economies and societies.
Healing divisions.
And starting to heal the planet.
That must be our New Year’s Resolution for 2021.

皆さん、
2020年は試練、悲劇、そして涙の年でした。
COVID-19は私たちの生活を混乱させ、世界を苦しみと悲しみに陥れました。
非常に多くの愛する人が亡くなりました – そしてパンデミックは激しさを増し、病と死の急増を生み出しています。
貧困、不平等、飢餓が増加しています。
仕事はなくなり、借金は増えています。
子供たちは苦悶しています。
家庭内暴力が増加し、不安が蔓延しています。
しかし、新年が待ち受けています。
そしてそれとともに、私たちには希望の光が見えています。
隣人や見知らぬ人に救いの手を差し伸べる人々。
最前線で全力で働く労働者。
記録的な速さでワクチンを開発している科学者。
気候災害を防ぐために新たな取り組みを行っている国々。
私たちが団結と連帯で協力すれば、これらの希望の光は世界中に届きます。
それこそがこの試練の年の教訓です。
気候変動とCOVID-19パンデミックはどちらも危機であり、包括的で持続可能な未来へと漸進する過程で、全員が一緒に取り組まなければなりません。
2021年の国連の中心的目標は、2050年までにカーボンニュートラル（正味ゼロエミッション）のための地球規模での連合を構築することです。
すべての政府、都市、企業、個人がビジョンの実現に貢献することができます。
一緒に、私たち自身と自然との平和を築き、気候危機に取り組み、COVID-19の蔓延を食い止め、2021年を癒しの年にしましょう。
致命的なウイルスの影響から治癒しましょう。
壊れた経済や社会を癒しましょう。
分断を癒しましょう。
そして、地球を癒すことを始めましょう。
それがまさに2021年の私たちの新年の抱負です。
国連から、皆様の幸せで平和な新年をお祈り申し上げます。
